By Dave Daubert

Marriott Golf, the global golf division of Marriott International, Inc. announced that PGA Professional Matt Sim has been promoted to the position of General Manager of Golf at Marriott's Stone Mountain Golf Club. In his new role, GM Sim will be responsible for overseeing golf operations for the 36 -hole public access facility including tournaments/special events, retail merchandising, hotel and guest play, instruction, staff training and customer engagement.

A 2010 graduate of Ferris State University's Professional Golf Management Program and a PGA Certified Professional, Matt has a well-rounded background in resort, member-owned and daily-fee golf operations. Matt has considerable experience at multiple Golf properties in Florida, California and Arizona, most recently as Head Golf Professional at JW Marriott Camelback Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

"Matt has excelled as a leader in our organization," said Claye Atcheson, Vice President of Marriott's Global Golf Division. "His experience, along with positive, proactive attitude will help further position Stone Mountain as local favorite."

Stone Mountain Golf Club is located in one of the most popular attractions in Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, located just 15 miles east of Atlanta on 3,200 acres of natural beauty. The park was built around the largest piece of exposed granite in the world-Stone Mountain- where families, visitors and conventioneers can enjoy numerous outdoor activities while camping in the park or staying at the AAA 4Diamond Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort or the historic Marriott Stone Mountain Inn. Stone Mountain Park and Golf Club is part of the Georgia Golf Trail, a selection of golf resorts and courses throughout the Peach State providing the finest accommodations and golf experiences, the home of the great Bobby Jones, The Masters and TOUR Championship.

What makes Stone Mountain Golf Club such a remarkable experience is the unique personalities of its two layouts. The Stonemont Course is a classic challenge that places emphasis on accuracy and strategic course management. The Lakemont course compliments the Stonemont with a less demanding design with exquisite views of Stone Mountain and the surrounding lake. The Stonemont Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1969 and is a favorite among players seeking a challenge. Georgia native and ASGCA Past President, John LaFoy, designed Lakemont in 1989 with 10 holes with water in play, subtle elevation changes and rock outcroppings contributing to a del ambiance that appeals to all golfers.
